Dedication of the Valley of Our Spirits Sculpture

New Sculpture in Mount Vernon, WA Celebrates Native American Heritage and the Diversity of Our Community.

This grand sculpture celebrating the diversity of our community is the most recent addition to the City’s collection of public art; and was created by artists Jay Bowen, Lin McJunkin and Milo White.

The 20-foot-tall sculpture is a metal and glass depiction of, “a bear chasing 17 various creatures up a totem to an awaiting eagle, as otters and ravens look on.” Installed on the Riverwalk Plaza, at the top of West Gates Street, the sculpture overlooks the Skagit River and surrounding buildings.

The dedication ceremony organized by the Mount Vernon Arts Commission included speakers, music, and a Native American blessing.
